The Running Man Jersey is heavily influenced by early video game iconography and specifically Atari’s Pong – arguably the forerunner to every videogame. The design uses simple pixels to create a basic geometric Running Man graphic icon which forms a stylish front chest badge. A series of tonal geometric graphic icons are cleverly reworked at the rear to form the signature ashmei stripe.
While the look is important, the Jersey’s high-performance fabric is second to none in terms of regulating body temperature. A hidden zipped security pocket on the side of the Jersey provides a subtle storage facility. For summer use, the addition of carbon to the blend is important as it allows the fabric to wick moisture 10x faster than regular Merino. It also helps it to dry twice as fast – a particularly desirable quality in garments used in high aerobic activity such as running.
“Growing up as a child in the 70’s, I was lucky enough to be introduced to new gaming technology – including the revolutionary Pong pixel games of Binatone,” recalls ashmei founder and creative director Stuart Brooke. “Running Man is a homage to these early games and was created by using simple pixels placed to create a basic “Running Man” geometric icon. I believe that this simple iconography from the 70s has stood the test of time.”
