It may be known as one of the toughest legs of the Giro D'Italia, but the Italian Dolomites have also proven an ideal testing ground for the ashmei Emergency Jacket. In spring, the Passo di Stelvio, possibly the most dramatic and challenging road in Europe with almost 15 miles of ascent to more than 1,500m, serves up the sort of terrain and conditions that will make you glad you packed this jacket. Brilliant Alpine sunshine, one minute; squally showers and low visibility, the next.

Packing down to an 8cm3 volume and weighing in at just 121g, our Emergency Jacket slips practically unnoticed into your rear jersey pocket.

Where this jacket really comes into its own is at the summit after that epic climb through those twisting mountain passes. The rapid descent requires a barrier to guard you against biting wind when riding at such speed and allows you to focus purely on those tricky hairpins. The Emergency jacket is that barrier and then some.

No need to worry if the road has surface water either. Our jacket comes fitted with a rear tail guard to protect you against road spray to keep your jersey free from grit, grease and grime. A reflective shoulder seam and rear strip increase visibility in low-light conditions ensures you are seen.

Ambassador David Jury, says: What attracts me to the Emergency Jacket is the fact that it's super light and packs right down without compromising on effect. Somehow it keeps rain out whilst keeping you warm and dry underneath. I do wonder how it accomplishes this yet remains as light as a feather.

all the great features of this jacket have already been appreciated here, i can definitly agree on this.
however, one thing emberasses evry single day i take it with me: the puch cant be closed with just this one single button.
it just does not work. always sneaks out of the pouch. a lecro might beo a better solution to this.

This jacket was bought for a trip to the Alps a couple of weeks ago. Last minute purchase, and Ashmei couldn’t have been more helpful with sizes and delivery, great customer service.

The jacket packs down really small, easily fits into a rear pocket with space for other kit. I used it a couple of times on descents and it provided enough protection from the chill. The fit (size M) was great, no flapping about, and I love the off-centre zip, great idea !!

Would definitely buy from Ashmei again, well worth the expense.

This is a great jacket. Although I’ve only had it for 3 months it has become invaluable in the Scottish mountains. The name suggested only to use it in an emergency…. I disagree.

It packs down incredibly small, into its own pouch and weights next to nothing, so in that respect, if you are not expecting rain but it looks like rain – definitely take it, expecting big fast descents – take it, not sure about the weather – take it. Wanting to have a coffee stop or admire the view somewhere, unless it a red hot day – take it.

It’s not a waterproof but it’s water resistant, riding through high mountain mist on a chilly day it will keep you dry and warm, in light rain it will keep you dry… certainly for a couple of hours, and because i wanted to test it to its limits, about 30 min in a very heavy downpour until i could tell I was getting wet, after an hour I got back home and there were still sections of me dry. But what you have to remember is this is not sold as a waterproof jacket so I have to admit it does a decent job of keeping you dry.
It breathes well, so no complaints there either.

It’s not 100% windproof but it does an excellent job on blocking all but the worst, it does not flap around a huge amount, mainly due to the rear vents and also the fit.

The fit is good and the tail is long enough to keep water spray hitting your shorts.

There are no rear pockets on this which I think is good as it keeps the packed size and weight down but also I’d never use them.

Finally the zip…. who would have thought you could review a zip? But here goes is it a gimmick that it slightly of centre at the top, usually you can always slightly feel the top of a zip when it’s fully done up to your neck and if it’s a good quality garment it’s not uncomfortable, this one I never even noticed it! I don’t think it’s a gimmick.

They certainly seem to have really thought about the finer point, not just on this but on the other product that the have designed and made that I own as well.

All in all this is a great little product, the running market have had this type of jacket for years and now finally it’s in the cycling world! Thank you. A very simple but yet very versatile jacket. Buy it and you won’t regret it.

Excellent jacket. I was in between L and XL on size chart (chest 42 inch). Opted for large- snug but perfect fit and no flapping in the wind! Really does pack down to nothing!

For me this is one of those items of kit that, before you own it, you can’t see why you would really need it. But once you’ve used it you wonder how you ever managed without it!
I’ve just come back from a month cycle trip around Europe and this jacket has had a lot of use.
Especially useful in the first hour or so in the morning when just a jersey isn’t quite enough, and on a few long descents under shady trees. Also it’s amazing as an intermediate layer under my waterproof on the wet days, being good against the skin, much better than the waterproof directly and gives a nice layer of insulation when a long sleeve jersey or a jacket is too much. Simply amazing!

The material is windproof but very light and breathable so you don’t overheat. It’s not waterproof but it repels water, in a shower the water beads and rolls away so unless it starts to really rain you don’t need anything else. If it does get wet the material stops the cold from wind chill and it dries very quickly so you don’t get that lingering cold damp after a sharp shower.

I like the nicely understated style and detailing, the cut and fit are great for my size and shape and the quality of the design, seams and stitching, are second to none. Also the zip is easily adjustable on the move.

The final plus is that it folds down into its own pocket that fits in the palm of your hand and weighs only 115 grams so you can take it with you all the time.
    A brilliant piece of kit!

it’s my new favourite jacket to stow in my back pocket, kept me dry in a light shower and warm enough till I got home. Perfect!
