If you have never experienced the wonder fabric that is Merino + Carbon, then we humbly suggest you jump in with our entry level top – the Short Sleeve Base Layer.  Every cyclist and runner knows the worth of a great baselayer for both ends of the temperature spectrum and this piece won’t let you down in the heat or in the cold.

Ensuring you stay cool on balmy summer days, the Merino + Carbon fabric has incredible breathability and temperature regulation. The material actively wicks sweat away from the skin to the outer layer of the fabric to keep you dry. In addition, Merino has odour reducing properties, which means you will never face the daunting prospect of your pals complaining about your body odour after those long, endurance rides.

For outings on cooler days, the beautifully soft, close fit of the Baselayer ensures that when you are on the drops there is simply no way through for cold air. That same thermo-regulation properties of Merino kick in to ensure you stay dry and warm when you wear the piece as a true Baselayer under an outer shell or Midlayer.

Either for hot or cold days, you win.

Paul Cowling, ashmei ambassador and Kona Ironman competitor, says: “The Baselayer proves that thicker and heavier isn’t always warmer. It is a psychological barrier that is tough to break. When riding in the top there is enough play in the fabric to never restrict my movements. It feels great next to your skin and you’re not made aware of any of its features. That is a good thing. The graphic on the back is a nice touch, subtle and smart. You don’t realise you’re uncomfortable until you experience comfort. Winter riding is usually terrible based on the kit you have to wear. But this is as close to summer comfort as I’ve experienced.”

A really top quality base layer – highly recommended. It is a ‘close to body’ fit without feeling too tight (true to size) and does an amazing job at wicking away sweat with no chafing.
Perfect for wearing under a lightweight jacket (much better than a standard running top). Also can be worn on its own on hot days (and can be worn repeatedly before it needs a wash).
You will get a lot of use out of this.

Really good quality. The sleeves come slightly longer than most base layers I’ve tried and fit snug. The fit in the body is nice and trim, so there isn’t much flapping going on. Very happy with this.

This is simply the best running top I have ever owned.

No matter the weather conditions, especially with regards to temperature, you will barely notice you are wearing it, nor feel too hot or cold. Perfect for a hot day as a stand-alone ultra quick-drying top (in fact it doesn’t ever seem to need to dry out as I never notice it get wet from sweating); or as an under layer beneath e.g. a waterproof jacket on a cold rainy day, given its superb breathability.

It must be the carbon merino material that makes this an extremely light weight but yet simultaneously ‘sturdy’ and reliable top.

As mentioned in another review, it is on the side of tight fitting so perhaps order a size up (I never usually need above a Small but Medium fits me perfectly in this case).

Short sleeve baselayer in red arrived at 11am this morning by 12.30pm it was out on a run.

I also own the short sleeve running shirt (which I love) but wanted some shirts to wear underneath waterproof running jacket or hoodies.

This shirt stands up well on its own and certainly is worth the cost. The fit is excellent (more fitted than the short sleeve running shirt) and the merino and carbon blend works well. Sweat was wicked away well and no chafing etc.

As an entry level into the range I’d highly recommend this as a stand alone shirt and I think it will be great in addition to other garments.
